What to Expect After Invisalign

Posted on December 19, 2022

Congratulations! You’ve finished your Invisalign and you are ready to move into your new life as a person without orthodontic issues. But it isn’t as straightforward as no

longer using your Invisalign trays. There are a couple of things you should be aware of that you need to expect after you finish your Invisalign.

You’ll Need a Retainer

Once you have finished with your Invisalign trays, you will need to wear a retainer for a while to make sure that all of the changes stick and you don’t end up needing to redo your treatment. Your jawbone will have softened as part of the Invisalign treatment, so you will need to wear the retainers until the bone has hardened enough to hold your teeth in place. Depending on the complexity of your treatment, this could be anywhere from 12 to 18 months.

You’ll Have a Few Follow-Up Appointments

You won’t have to see your orthodontist as often as you did during your Invisalign treatment, but there will still be follow-up appointments to make sure that your teeth are still healthy and that your retainers are doing their job. Unlike braces, you won’t have a lot of appointments during or after Invisalign, but it is still a medical procedure that needs to be checked on by an orthodontist. Your follow-up appointments will make sure that your teeth are in the right place, that there aren’t any issues that were missed, and that there aren’t any complications arising. Once you have finished with the retainers, you will likely be done with follow-up appointments as well.

Your Smile Will Be Fabulous

You went into your Invisalign treatment hoping to fix your teeth and after you have finished your treatment, you will have the fabulous smile you were hoping for. Because you used Invisalign, you won’t have to worry about any weird staining or difference in color on your teeth that may come from braces. You just have that great set of pearly whites you were hoping for. If you want, you can look into whitening treatments to further enhance your smile, but make sure you enjoy the newfound confidence from loving your smile.

Just because you have a couple of things left to make sure your treatment truly sticks doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate your newfound beautiful smile. Enjoy your favorite foods that you haven’t eaten in a while, take new photos, or change up your style to match your fresh feeling. Just make sure you thank your orthodontist.
